Seesaw Automation and Archiving Classes August 2020

If you are a teacher who used Seesaw in the spring of 2020, how much did you learn to love Seesaw?  If you hadn't used it before, you surely saw it's value in distance learning times!  A few details to share, and this seemed like the easiest way.  I hope this helps. You can leave comments in this blog post if you have questions, then I can answer, or someone else who has an idea can, and it's good for everyone. Last year's classes in Seesaw

Those will all need to be archived.

  • IF YOU CREATED THE CLASS, you do that your self.  This Help Desk post explains how in easy steps.
  • IF THE CLASS WAS CREATED IN CLEVER, we archive that through the admin console, and it will happen today (Th 8.20.20)

TK-2nd grade classes

Your classes will be built through automation in Clever. You should see them by Monday morning.   I will be creating a one pager for how to access Seesaw (update--it was emailed Friday am) for you to send home at the time of your choice.  Spoiler-- you will have students sign into CLEVER on the iPad with either their Google account or Clever sign in (300#), then click the Seesaw logo button in Clever. This will pass them through to the Seesaw app where they will see your class.  Home codes are not needed. Clever passthrough is better.

They will be able to open the app directly from then on because the app will remember their sign in.

If you have already created a class and assigned activities, I can not predict what will happen. It is important that you are working with your students within the Clever assigned class. Please move an assigned work into that class once it is created.  Your activity library should not be impacted.

3rd-8th grade classes

Although Google Classroom is your primary platform for lesson flow (so parents have one place to check), I know some of you still want to use Seesaw activities, and that is fine.  I will have more information to help you with that coming soon.

Note:  you may have had access to Seesaw for Schools benefits last year as part of their COVID promotion. That access will be removed for the fall.

You will need to create your own class. There is no need for home codes if you do the following two things:

  1. Use Google Sign This is ideal because it works so easily that way on Chromebooks where they are already signed in.
  2. Turn off "students can see each other's work" in class settings (the wrench in the top right corner of your class.

Resources for you

I hope that helps!

  1. Is it correct that students signing in to Seesaw through Clever eliminates the need to print any type of passcode/QR code? Will they need to sign in to Clever only once?

    1. That is true, yes. When Preschool-2nd grade students sign in through Clever, it is putting them in the automated class and we have set that globally so they can see each other's work. Home codes and QR codes are not necessary.
